Govt. SPMR College of Commerce Observes International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a Series of Awareness Events

Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan/Anti- Tobacco Cell and Shikshit Bharat Committee of Govt. SPMR
College of Commerce organised series of events to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit
Trafficking. The events aimed to create awareness among the students about the harmful effect of the
substance abuse and to encourage them to adopt a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. Addressing the
gathering, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Principal of the college, spoke passionately about the harmful physical,
psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. He urged the students to become ambassadors
of change and contribute to building a drug-free society.
The day commenced with an Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Fight Against Drug Abuse.” The
event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various semesters. Ms. Komal of B.Com
Semester V clinched the first position, followed by Mr. Sumeer and Ms. Priya Sharma, also from B.Com
Semester V, who secured the second and third positions respectively.
A Pledge-Taking Ceremony was conducted next, during which both faculty members and students
solemnly vowed to stand united against drug abuse and to actively spread awareness within the
community.
To further engage students creatively, a Poster Making Competition was organized, showcasing the
artistic expressions and thoughtful messages of the participants. Mr. Tarish earned first place for his
compelling artwork, while Ms. Janvi and Mr. Keshav Sharma were awarded second and third positions
respectively.
The competitions were evaluated by a panel of esteemed faculty judges comprising Dr. Reena Rani, Prof.
Monika Mahajan, and Prof. Sanjeev Verma.
The entire series of events was conducted under the able coordination of Prof. Monika Mahajan,
Convener, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan/Anti-Tobacco Cell, along with Prof. Sanjeev Verma and Dr.
Jagmeet Kaur, who ensured smooth execution and active student participation. Among the faculty
members present at the occasion were Dr. Vipul Chalotra, Dr. Madhu Bala, Prof. Sindhu Kotwal, and Mr.
Ravi Kumar, whose support and encouragement contributed to the success of the program.
